Overview

Altman Siegel is pleased to present Equations, Chris Johanson’s second solo exhibition with the gallery.  This show is a continuation of the multifaceted artistic output Johanson calls Life Arts,which includes painting, drawing, sculpture, installation and music.  The exhibition is comprised of new paintings made on recycled materials.  The paintings expand the artist’s use of idiosyncratic figures, developing acute observations of the human condition through detailed environments and the vibrant use of color.  Depicting seemingly ordinary people in complex exterior worlds and scenarios, the paintings engage in political, social and philosophical dialogues around a fraught contemporary existence.  The figures speak and interact with one another as well as the viewer.
