Zarouhie Abdalian: An Overture

Altman Siegel is pleased to present An Overture, Oakland based artist Zarouhie Abdalian’s first solo exhibition with the gallery. Rooted in the particularities of site and context, Abdalian’s work typically responds to the specific attributes of a given location, architectural setting, or social landscape. Within the context of Altman Siegel, and with a characteristic economy of means, Abdalian presents a suite of objects that are responsive to the gallery as a public site of transaction. Variously staged as gift or tribute, these sculptures are suspended in a state of transition. Abdalian’s subtle manipulations reframe the historical contingencies of the objects, while pointing to their future beyond the gallery, allowing the exhibition to operate as an interval.
